Description
The training is an educational session designed to enhance participants' understanding of the anatomy of the heart and major blood vessels relevant to clinical and perioperative practice. The session covers the structural organization of the heart, cardiac chambers and valves, coronary circulation, cardiac conduction system, innervation, and the anatomy of the great vessels and major peripheral vessels.
Objectives
Describe the surface anatomy and anatomical landmarks of the heart.
Identify the borders, chambers, and layers of the heart, including the pericardium and fibrous skeleton.
Explain the anatomy and function of the cardiac valves, including the mitral, aortic, tricuspid, and pulmonary valves.
Discuss the anatomy of the right and left atria and ventricles and their key structural features.
Describe the arterial and venous blood supply of the heart, including the coronary arteries and coronary venous drainage system.
Explain the anatomy and function of the cardiac conduction system, including the sinoatrial node, atrioventricular node, Bundle of His, bundle branches, and Purkinje fibres.
Discuss the autonomic nerve supply of the heart and its physiological significance.
Describe the anatomy and major branches of the aorta, vena cava, pulmonary arteries, and pulmonary veins.
Apply knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy to clinical, surgical, and anaesthetic practice. This objective is inferred from the session content and references used in anaesthesia-focused texts.
