Description

The TECC© Workshop is an intensive, multi-day training program designed to enhance skills in emergency care through realistic, hands-on scenarios and skill stations. Over five days, participants will engage in comprehensive training on adult and trauma resuscitation, obstetric and paediatric care, and critical emergency interventions. The course emphasizes a team-based approach to handling various medical emergencies, from cardiac arrest and breathing difficulties to trauma and toxicological emergencies. Participants will gain proficiency in essential techniques such as airway management, CPR, defibrillation, and advanced trauma care. The workshop culminates in megacode scenarios and evaluations to assess clinical skills and readiness for real-world emergencies. This course is ideal for healthcare professionals seeking to deepen their expertise in emergency care and improve their response capabilities.

Objectives

TECC© Workshop Outline Day 1 - Adult Resuscitation Participants will learn to approach resuscitation with a team-based strategy, focusing on effective collaboration and universal methods for critically ill or injured patients. The workshop will cover key skills through hands-on stations, including airway management (basic, advanced, and difficult), and CPR & defibrillation. Participants will engage in practice-based scenarios to handle unconscious patients, including adult cardiac arrest and post-cardiac arrest care. Additionally, they will manage patients with breathing difficulties, such as choking, anaphylaxis, and acute asthma. Day 2 - Adult Resuscitation & Trauma Resuscitation The focus will be on practice-based scenarios addressing various conditions such as chest pain (acute coronary syndrome and pulmonary embolism), altered levels of consciousness (AEIOU TIPPS), seizures, stroke, sepsis, septic shock, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities (e.g., hyperkalaemia). Participants will also handle toxicology cases, including organophosphate poisoning, methanol poisoning, and bites & stings. Participants will engage in trauma resuscitation skill stations, focusing on C-spine stabilization, helmet removal, GCS assessment, chest tube insertion, and E-FAST (Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma). Day 3 - Trauma Resuscitation The day will involve practice-based scenarios that include conducting primary surveys and interventions for trauma patients, such as airway management, chest trauma, shock, head injuries, abdominal trauma, and crush injuries. Participants will perform secondary surveys (head-to-toe) and provide resuscitation for burns and electrical injuries. Skills stations will include pelvic fracture stabilization and backslab application, femur fracture stabilization, radiology (CXR, C-spine x-ray, pelvis x-ray, head CT scan, extremities), and mass casualty triage. Day 4 - Obstetric & Paediatric Resuscitation In obstetric resuscitation, participants will practice skills related to shoulder dystocia, breech delivery, and postpartum hemorrhage. They will also handle scenarios involving maternal cardiac arrest, trauma, seizures in pregnancy, and postpartum hemorrhage. In paediatric resuscitation, participants will practice paediatric airway management, intraosseous access, and umbilical vein catheterization. They will also manage scenarios involving neonatal and paediatric resuscitation and trauma. Day 5 - Megacode Resuscitation & Testing Participants will engage in megacode scenarios to apply their skills in adult resuscitation, trauma resuscitation, obstetric resuscitation, neonatal resuscitation, and paediatric resuscitation. The day will conclude with testing and assessments, including a multiple-choice TECC test, basic life support clinical skills assessment, individual scenario-based clinical skills assessment, and a course evaluation.
