Description

The Safe Paediatric Anaesthesia Training program is designed to equip doctors and nurses with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to provide safe, effective, and high-quality anaesthetic care for infants and children. The training focuses on the unique physiological characteristics of paediatric patients, the specific risks associated with paediatric anaesthesia, and evidence-based strategies to prevent complications.

Objectives

Understand paediatric physiology and how it differs from adults (airway anatomy, fluid balance, thermoregulation, cardiovascular response). Identify common risks associated with paediatric anaesthesia and strategies to minimize them. Recognize age-specific drug dosing, pharmacokinetics, and safe medication practices. Explain preoperative assessment tailored to infants and children, including fasting guidelines and risk stratification.
