CAROLINE KITHINJI
Ms. Kithinji is the head of training at the Scientific and Ethics Review Unit (SERU) of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). She has 20 years of experience in Research Ethics Committee (REC) administration and training During this time, in addition to providing efficient and considered review of research protocols, she has trained and mentored young professionals in Biomedical ethics and research ethics committee administration. SERU, inaugurated in 2014, is a culmination of ten years of deliberate introduction of resources, both human and financial, into a secretariat that began with three individuals to a team of 14 well-trained professionals.
Mrs Melba Katindi
Ms. Katindi is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya practicing as Katindi & Company Advocates and the Founder of NEXTGEN Lawyers - Kenya. She is an active member of Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) – Scientific and Ethics Review Unit and has been a reviewer since 2014. She is the current Vice Chairperson of the Bioethics Society of Kenya. She is a highly proficient legal professional with extensive experience in health-related Human Rights and Gender. She has over 10 years combined work experience. She has a postgraduate diploma in Bioethics, is currently pursuing a Master in Bioethics course at AMIU and is passionate about bioethics education and awareness. Within the health sector, she provides technical assistance to incorporate rights-based approaches and mainstreaming gender equality within HIV, TB, Palliative Care, SRHR and Drug Policy Reform. She is passionate about evidence-informed laws, policies and practices and been involved in advancing community-led research among populations most impacted by discriminatory laws. She continues to actively influence Policy and Legislation through Legislative Advocacy and Strategic Litigation.

ELIZABETH BUKUSI
Prof. Bukusi (ObGyn), MPH, PhD, PGD (Research Ethics), Masters in Bioethics, Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences, earned her general medical degree and Masters in Obstetrics and Gynaecology degree from the University of Nairobi. She then earned a certificate in international health, MPH and a PhD from the University of Washington’s Department of Epidemiology, a post graduate diploma in Research Ethics from the University of Cape Town and a Masters in Bioethics from Centre for Bioethics and Culture at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation in Karachi.

JAMES AYIEKO
Dr. Ayieko is a medical doctor who holds an MPH from University of California, Berkeley and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. James’ career over the last decade has centered around HIV care and ways of improving treatment outcomes in low resource settings. His area of interest has been improving treatment outcomes by optimizing the HIV care cascade right from linkage of HIV infected individuals to care, retention and viral suppression

Prof. Muhudhia is Consultant Paediatrician in clinical practice at The Nairobi Hospital. He is an adjunct professor of bioethics, and co-director Africa Bioethics Initiative at Trinity International University in Illinois, USA. He is a part- time lecturer at Kabarak University, where he teaches bioethics to Master of Family Medicine students. Prof. Muhudhia is an adjunct faculty for the Master in Bioethics program at Amref International University and Mount Kenya University in Kenya.

Dr. Kwena is a Lead Social Scientist at Kenya Medical Research Institute’s Center for Microbiology Research since 2002. He is also the immediate former Science Coordinator of the Lake Victoria Consortium for Health Research (LVCHR), aiming to improve access to health care and other social services through research and implementation of resultant interventions.

Ms. Ngure is a Research Scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Scientific and Ethics Review Unit (SERU). Currently serving as a Compliance officer for all Non-Kemri Institutions and part of the SERU training. Over the years. Judy has had the privilege of contributing to SERU’s mandate of research regulation as a committee member where we review protocols to ensure they are scientifically and ethically sound. She has also been involved in monitoring approved projects routinely and when participants raise alarm to ensure participants rights and wellbeing is safeguarded.

Mr. Kipkosgei is Research Scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). He is currently the SERU Compliance officer for CGHR and CIPDCR and a member of committee A at SERU. Timothy obtained his Master of Science degree in International Health from JKUAT and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Egerton University.
