Description

This journal club presentation reviewed a randomized controlled trial titled“Low-Dose Morphine Intrathecal Analgesia in Elderly Patients with Hip Fracture Undergoing Single Spinal Anaesthesia”. The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of administering intrathecal morphine (ITM) in elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery under spinal anaesthesia, compared with standard multimodal analgesia. The presentation examined the study design, methodology, outcomes, adverse effects, strengths, limitations, and implications for clinical anaesthetic practice.

Objectives

To enhance participants' knowledge and critical appraisal skills regarding the use of low-dose intrathecal morphine as part of postoperative analgesia for elderly hip fracture patients, enabling evidence-based decision-making in regional anaesthesia and perioperative pain management.
