Ending on:

Venue:

Description

This Continuing Medical Education (CME) session will provide a comprehensive overview of the systemic effects of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), a major public health concern associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The session will explore how chronic alcohol use affects multiple organ systems including the liver, cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, nervous system, endocrine system, and immune function. Participants will review the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying alcohol-related organ damage, clinical manifestations, and complications such as alcoholic liver disease, cardiomyopathy, pancreatitis, neuropathy, and nutritional deficiencies. The session will also highlight approaches to early detection, screening, and integrated management of AUD within clinical practice. Emphasis will be placed on a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating medical management, behavioral interventions, and preventive strategies to reduce disease burden and improve patient outcomes.

Objectives

By the end of this CME session, participants will be able to: Describe the pathophysiology of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and its impact on multiple organ systems. Identify the systemic complications of chronic alcohol use, including hepatic, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, neurological, and endocrine effects. Recognize clinical signs and symptoms associated with alcohol-related organ damage. Apply appropriate screening tools and diagnostic approaches for early detection of AUD and its complications. Implement evidence-based management strategies for both AUD and its systemic complications. Address nutritional deficiencies and metabolic disturbances associated with chronic alcohol use. Promote multidisciplinary care, including referral to addiction services, counseling, and rehabilitation programs. Develop preventive and patient education strategies to reduce alcohol-related harm.
