Description
An upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is a common illness that affects the upper respiratory system, including the sinuses, nose, pharynx, larynx, and trachea
Objectives
URTIs are usually caused by a virus and typically get better within one or two weeks. Symptoms include: runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever, and hoarseness
Treatments for URTIs include: rest, fluids, and over-the-counter pain relievers.
URTIs are self-limiting and often go away on their own.
However, infants and the elderly should seek early treatment if there is no improvement after a few days.
