Description

The Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital (CRTH) Annual ENT Surgical Camp is a flagship outreach and capacity-building initiative aimed at improving access to specialized Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) services within Nakuru County and the greater Rift Valley region. Held annually, the camp brings together a multidisciplinary team of ENT specialists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver high-quality surgical and outpatient care to patients with ENT conditions—many of whom face prolonged waiting periods due to resource and personnel constraints. The camp also serves as a clinical training platform, providing opportunities for local medical officers, surgical trainees, and nurses to gain hands-on experience under the mentorship of senior ENT consultants. It fosters a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and equitable service delivery. In addition to addressing the surgical backlog, the camp promotes early detection, health education, and community awareness on ENT-related conditions. It is supported through strategic partnerships between the county health department, professional associations, academic institutions, and private-sector partners committed to strengthening specialist care at the county level.

Objectives

Improve Access to Specialized ENT Care To provide timely and affordable surgical and medical management of ENT conditions for underserved populations in Nakuru County and surrounding regions. Reduce the Elective Surgical Backlog To address the accumulated waiting list for ENT procedures by offering high-volume, consultant-led surgical interventions. Enhance Clinical Training and Capacity Building To offer hands-on training and mentorship to medical officers, surgical residents, nurses, and clinical officers, thereby strengthening local capacity in ENT care. Promote Early Detection and Public Awareness To increase community awareness of ENT diseases and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment through health talks and patient education during the camp. Foster Multisectoral Collaboration To strengthen partnerships between public health institutions, professional bodies, universities, and private sector stakeholders in advancing ENT service delivery. Document Outcomes and Inform Policy To collect and analyze data on service delivery, surgical outcomes, and patient demographics to inform future planning, advocacy, and resource allocation for ENT services.
