Description

Maternal mortality refers to the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of the end of a pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy. The global maternal mortality ratio (MMR) was 197 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2023. Kenya's MMR was 355 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2025, which is significantly higher than the SDG target. In this audit, we discuss patient G.G a 20 year old primigravida with missed miscarriage who was also on treatment for sepsis, lower GI bleeding, pulmonary Tuberculosis and a new diagnosis of HIV

Objectives

1. Case presentation outlining the timelines, events and the interventions done to the patient before her death. 2. A fishbone analysis of the strengths and challenges faced in the management of the patient and the possible root causes of her death. 3. To identify opportunities for improvement for future prevention of such mortalities.
