Description

This is a workshop designed to align and standardize laboratory diagnostics, relevant to Minimally Invasive Tissue Sampling (MITS) for cause of death determination. This will develop a consensus approach to histopathological interpretation of MITS specimens, oversight of laboratory techniques and communication to the DeCoDe panel. The ultimate goal is to turn the Kenya site into a center of excellence.

Objectives

1.Identify the role of clinical laboratory in supporting MITS DeCoDe panels, and overall diagnostic objectives. 2.Apply best histology laboratory procedures used to prepare stained slides from tissue samples. 3.Analyze appropriately stained slides from tissue samples, to identify structures, diseases and pathogens of interest. 4.Apply infectious disease diagnostic procedures, for demonstration and isolation of infectious agents, from MITS tissue, blood, rectal swab, and cerebrospinal fluid specimens. 5.Relate immunohistochemistry and multipathogen PCR in diagnostics, to traditional diagnostic techniques. 6.Develop a suitable approach to MITS diagnostics. 7.Reflect on role of the Pathologist, and Laboratory Professionals, in maintaining total quality management, through their supervisory roles, best practice, and communication with the DeCoDe panel.
