Description
This is a three-day in-person training for different cadres of health care workers on type 1 diabetes in children and adolescents. The training methods include lectures, demonstrations and practical sessions.
Objectives
Teach health care workers to be able to:
• Define Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM)
• Describe the etiology and classical presentation of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
• Understand various types of insulin and their mode of action
• Describe how to initiate basal bolus regimen and how to transition from premix to basal bolus.
• Explain routine management of T1DM
• Understand how to recognize and manage acute complications of T1DM:
o Diabetes ketoacidosis
o Hypoglycaemia
• Understand healthy eating in T1DM
• Manage T1DM in School
• Manage sick day and surgery in T1DM
• Manage exercise in T1DM
• Understand monitoring of Growth and Development in the Child with Diabetes
• Explain Structured Diabetes Education
• Describe, prevent and manage chronic complications of T1DM
• Learn how to integrate Psychosocial care in T1DM
