Dr. Nafula is a dedicated and accomplished medical practitioner specializing in palliative medicine, with over eight years of dynamic experience in the field. Passionate about expanding palliative care services, Dr. Nafula has worked in diverse environments, including rural, community, and urban settings. She has worked in both government and private sectors. Currently she leads a committed team to enhance patient care and support in hospitals and at home. In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Nafula holds significant leadership roles, including serving as a Director on the Board of Trustees for the International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPN) and as a Council Member for the Public Health Palliative Care Initiative (PHPCI). Her commitment to education is evident through five years of teaching experience in pain management and palliative care as a tutor, faculty member and mentor. Her expertise extends to policy formulation and guideline development at both institutional and Ministry of Health levels, reflecting a steadfast commitment to advancing evidence based patient care. With a focus on exemplary patient outcomes, Dr. Nafula emphasizes adherence to evidence-based practices and the cultivation of exceptional medical teams. International Cancer Institute invites you to attend the Virtual Multidisciplinary Tumor Board case presentation on solid cancers and hematological malignancies, followed by an expert discussion on patient Management. The multidisciplinary team will review recent advancements in oncology, cancer patients’ safety and health outcomes, interdisciplinary collaboration, and treatment plans. There will be a Q&A session with an open floor for insights.

Presenters

  1. Dr. Marcus Asuquo
    I trained at the University of Calabar, earning a medical degree (MBBCh) in 1988. I worked as a junior research fellow at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) for 5.6 years before beginning residency training. I completed my junior training at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan and advanced to senior training at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). In 2008, I was awarded the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Pathology (FMCPath (Haem)). In January 2010, I was appointed as a Lecturer I at the University of Calabar and as an Honorary Consultant Haematologist at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. Since then, I have been involved in teaching medical students, training residents in haematology, and conducting research. I have authored and contributed to several scholarly articles and books, secured research grants, and was the Principal Investigator for two studies: the 54 Gene Heritage study in Cross River State and the Unity Global Study for health workers exposed to COVID-19 in Nigeria. Was promoted to the post of Chief Consultant in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and to the rank of Associate Professor at the University of Calabar. Currently, I serve as the clinical consultant to Syndicate Bio, where I am involved in genome studies in Nigeria. My research interests include haemato-oncology, blood transfusion avoidance strategies, and Sickle Cell Anaemia. I lead the haemato-oncology unit of the department and have served as the National Secretary of the Nigerian Society for Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NSHBT) from 2014 to 2018. Additionally, I have been the National Secretary of the Cancer Education Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CEAFON) since 2013. I am a member of numerous professional associations. I serve as the chairman of the Neglected Cancers Committee of the Nigerian Cancer Society
