Starting on:
Dec 9, 2025
Ending on:
Dec 9, 2025
Venue:

Description

This webinar will explore the persistent myths, misconceptions, and stigma surrounding childhood disability and their impact on children, families, and communities. Through expert presentations and real-world insights, participants will deepen their understanding of how cultural beliefs, limited awareness, and systemic barriers contribute to discrimination and hinder early identification, care, and inclusion. The session will highlight evidence-based approaches for transforming harmful narratives, strengthening caregiver and community support, and promoting inclusive, stigma-free environments where all children can thrive. The event will feature regional and international perspectives, practical strategies for healthcare workers, and opportunities for participants to reflect on their role as advocates for children with disabilities.

Objectives

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to: Identify common myths and misconceptions surrounding childhood disability within African and global contexts. Explain how stigma affects early identification, healthcare access, developmental outcomes, and family wellbeing. Describe culturally sensitive approaches for addressing myths and reducing stigma among caregivers, communities, and healthcare providers. Apply evidence-based communication strategies to promote positive, respectful, and inclusive narratives around disability. Strengthen their advocacy role by identifying practical ways to support inclusive health systems, early intervention pathways, and community engagement. Draw insights from expert case studies and experiences to inform their own practice, training, or programming.
