The development of this plan has been a collaborative effort involving key stakeholders who include; the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Finance, dental faculty, Kenya Dental Association, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, Dental technologists, NEMA, Health Promotion Team, Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Kenya Revenue Authority, Insurance Regulatory Authority, public health officers, Kenya Bureau of Standards, oral health coordinators, Centre for Environment Justice and Development, medical insurance - SHA, and the Association of Biomedical Engineers Kenya, their contributions and commitment to this cause are deeply appreciated.

Objectives

1.To strengthen leadership, governance and multisectoral coordination to guide the safe reduction of dental amalgam use. 2.To strengthen oral health promotion and preventive care to decrease reliance on restorative services. 3.To reduce environmental mercury impact by implementing eco-friendly dental practices and ensuring safe management and disposal of amalgam waste. 4.To expand access to mercury-free alternatives by increasing the availability and affordability of effective mercury-free restorative materials, especially for underserved populations. 5.To capacity build and train oral healthcare professionals on the use of alternative restorative materials and proper waste management. 6. To enhance public awareness of the risks of dental amalgam use and benefits of alternatives. 7. To promote monitoring and evaluation, research and information sharing on the dental amalgam phase down activities.
