Description
Hosocomial infections, or healthcare-associated infections, are a significant source of preventable harm in healthcare settings worldwide. These infections can occur in any healthcare environment—ranging from hospitals and long-term care facilities to outpatient clinics—and often result from invasive procedures, device use, immunosuppression, or prolonged hospitalization. Common types include central line–associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, surgical site infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and Clostridioides difficile infections. Nosocomial infections not only lead to significant morbidity and mortality but also contribute to increased length of stay, antimicrobial resistance, and healthcare costs. As infection prevention practices evolve and antimicrobial resistance rises, understanding and addressing nosocomial infections remain critical public health priorities
