Description

This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity is a hands-on Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) training session designed to enhance clinicians’ practical ultrasound skills for bedside clinical decision-making. The session will combine brief focused teaching with supervised hands-on scanning, allowing participants to practice image acquisition, probe handling, and interpretation in real clinical scenarios. Emphasis will be placed on safe, accurate, and efficient use of POCUS in common medical and emergency settings. The training aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice by enabling clinicians to gain confidence in performing focused ultrasound examinations and integrating findings into patient management.

Objectives

By the end of this activity, participants should be able to: 1. Understand the principles of POCUS, including basic ultrasound physics, machine settings, and probe selection. 2. Demonstrate correct probe handling and scanning techniques for common POCUS applications. 3. Acquire and optimize basic ultrasound images at the bedside. 4. Identify normal and common abnormal findings relevant to routine clinical practice. 5. Integrate POCUS findings into clinical decision-making, including diagnosis, monitoring, and procedural guidance. 6. Recognize the limitations of POCUS and identify situations requiring further imaging or specialist referral. 7. Apply best practices for patient safety and infection control during ultrasound use.
