Description
he four prongs of PMTCT (prevention of mother-to-child transmission) are a comprehensive approach to stopping HIV transmission from a mother to her child. The prongs are: 1) Primary prevention of HIV infection among women of childbearing age, 2) Prevention of unintended pregnancies among women living with HIV, 3) Prevention of HIV transmission from an HIV-positive woman to her infant, and 4) Treatment, care, and support for women living with HIV, their children, and families.
