Description

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) remains one of the most important pregnancy complications, impacting both mother and baby during and after pregnancy. This session unpacks GDM from diagnosis to postpartum follow-up, exploring risk factors, screening strategies, treatment options, and long-term prevention. We’ll move beyond theory into practical, evidence-based approaches that optimize outcomes – the “sweet spot” where clinical excellence meets compassionate care.

Objectives

Activity Objectives By the end of this session, participants will be able to: Describe the pathophysiology, risk factors, and diagnostic criteria for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). Apply evidence-based screening and management protocols for GDM during pregnancy. Integrate lifestyle, nutritional, and pharmacological interventions to optimize maternal and fetal outcomes. Plan postpartum follow-up and preventive strategies to reduce long-term complications for both mother and child. Recognize the importance of multidisciplinary and patient-centered approaches in GDM care.
