Prof. Jafarey (FCPS, FRCS, MBE) is Professor at the Centre of Biomedical Ethics and Culture (CBEC), SIUT. He is also a General Surgeon who did academic clinical practice at the Aga Khan University till 2016. Prof. Jafarey has been involved in bioethics education and research for over two decades and has been managing the Postgraduate Diploma and master’s programs in Bioethics offered by CBEC since 2006. He served on Pakistan’s National Bioethics Committee for 8 years, and was involved in the research review process, in addition to serving on the Clinical Studies Committee of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan

Dr. Jesani (An independent researcher/teacher (bioethics, public health) is one of the founders of the Forum for Medical Ethics Society (FMES) and Editor, Indian Journal of Medical Ethics (IJME www.ijme.in), published since 1993. He was a co-founder of Anusandhan Trust and the founding director of its institute, CEHAT (1994-99). He is a visiting faculty at Ethics Centre, Yenepoya University, Mangalore (since 2011), at Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Culture (CBEC), Karachi (since 2010) and at KEMRI-CBEC Bioethics training program in Nairobi (since 2017). In the past he served as a member of several Research Ethics Committees in India and international Research Ethics Board of the Medicine Sans Frontiers (2009-24).

Prof. Ahmad (FCPS MHSc (Bioethics) has a longstanding interest in Bioethics. He is the Dean and Chief Nephrologist at The Kidney Centre Postgraduate Training Institute, an Honorary Senior Lecturer (Bioethics) at the Aga Khan University, and an adjunct faculty member at CBEC-SIUT in Karachi, Pakistan. He is a Member of the Ethics Review Committees of Aga Khan University, Ziauddin University and the Chair of IRB at Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Karachi. He is also a member of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Ethics Review Board (ERB).

Prof. Weru is the Chief Medical Officer and Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi. Dr. Ayieko is a medical doctor who holds an MPH from University of California, Berkeley and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. James’ career over the last decade has centered around HIV care and ways of improving treatment outcomes in low resource settings. His area of interest has been improving treatment outcomes by optimizing the HIV care cascade right from linkage of HIV infected individuals to care, retention and viral suppression.

Rev. Dr. Fr. Mwakio is a Catholic priest from Mombasa Archdiocese since 2004. He holds bachelor’s degree in Philosophical studies from Urbaniana University-Rome, bachelor’s degree in theological studies, Masters and Doctorate degrees in Bioethics all from Regina Apostol rum University, Rome. He is the author of book “The Right to Life and African Concepts about Life: A Bioethical Approach for Kenya, 2014.
