Description

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global health threat that compromises our ability to effectively treat common infections. Inappropriate prescribing and misuse of antibiotics are major drivers of resistance, leading to prolonged hospital stays, increased healthcare costs, and higher morbidity and mortality rates. This Continuing Medical Education (CME) session is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to implement Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASPs) in clinical practice. Through case-based discussions and interactive learning, participants will explore strategies to optimize antibiotic use, improve patient outcomes, and curb the development of resistance while safeguarding the future of antimicrobial therapy.

Objectives

Understand the principles of antimicrobial stewardship and its role in combating antimicrobial resistance. Recognize patterns of antimicrobial resistance locally, regionally, and globally, and their implications for clinical practice. Apply evidence-based prescribing practices for common infections, including appropriate selection, dosing, and duration of antibiotic therapy. Identify strategies to reduce inappropriate antimicrobial use in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
