Assistant Professor in Pain and Palliative Medicine, Agakhan University Hospital, Nairobi He holds an MBChB degree from the University of Nairobi, a Master’s degree in Palliative Care (MPC) from Dundee University in the UK, and a Diploma in Leadership in Palliative Medicine from the Institute of Palliative Medicine in San Diego, USA. He has been instrumental in building a palliative care service at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi. Dr. Weru is the first palliative medicine specialist in Kenya recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist’s Board (KMPD), and is the leader of the Palliative Care Team at the hospital. Chairperson the East African Palliative Care Steering Committee, Dr. Weru has been charged with the responsibility of developing and setting up palliative care service in the region.
