Venue:

Description

This Continuing Medical Education (CME) session will address the complex issue of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), a distressing condition with multifactorial causes affecting couples and challenging clinicians. The session will cover definitions, epidemiology, etiological factors (genetic, anatomic, endocrine, immunologic, infectious, and unexplained), diagnostic work-up, and evidence-based management approaches. Special emphasis will be placed on counseling, psychological support, and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to optimize outcomes and provide holistic care for affected families.

Objectives

By the end of this CME session, participants will be able to: Foundations and Epidemiology Define recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) based on international and national guidelines. Describe the prevalence, risk factors, and psychosocial impact of RPL on couples. Etiology and Pathophysiology Identify common causes of RPL including genetic, anatomic, endocrine, immunological, and infectious factors. Discuss emerging evidence on unexplained RPL and its management challenges. Diagnostic Evaluation Apply a systematic approach to investigating couples with RPL, including laboratory, imaging, and genetic testing. Differentiate between investigations that are evidence-based and those of limited clinical utility. Management Approaches Outline evidence-based medical, surgical, and supportive interventions for various causes of RPL. Discuss the role of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and genetic counseling where appropriate. Psychosocial and Supportive Care Provide effective counseling and psychological support to couples experiencing RPL. Recognize the importance of empathetic communication and continuity of care. Multidisciplinary and Preventive Strategies Collaborate with obstetricians, gynecologists, endocrinologists, geneticists, psychologists, and counselors in managing RPL. Apply preventive strategies and preconception counseling to reduce recurrence risk.
