Description
This Continuing Medical Education (CME) activity is designed to enhance healthcare providers’ knowledge and skills in the diagnosis, management, and long-term care of patients with schizophrenia. The session will explore the clinical presentation, pathophysiology, and evidence-based pharmacologic and psychosocial treatment modalities. Special emphasis will be placed on early intervention, relapse prevention, adherence strategies, and the integration of mental health care in primary care and specialist settings.
Objectives
By the end of this activity, participants should be able to:
Describe the clinical features, diagnostic criteria, and subtypes of schizophrenia as outlined in DSM-5.
Explain the neurobiological and psychosocial factors contributing to the development and progression of schizophrenia.
Identify current evidence-based treatment options, including antipsychotic medications and psychosocial interventions.
Discuss strategies for improving treatment adherence, minimizing relapse, and enhancing long-term outcomes.
Recognize the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in the comprehensive care and rehabilitation of patients with schizophrenia.
Apply ethical and culturally sensitive approaches when managing patients with schizophrenia in diverse healthcare settings.
