Description
Platelet count dynamics in critical care usually refers to the way platelet levels change in critically ill patients and how these changes influence diagnosis, prognosis, and management.
Objectives
-To describe the normal physiology and function of platelets in hemostasis and immune regulation.
-To identify common causes of thrombocytopenia and thrombocytosis in critically ill patients.
-To interpret platelet count trends and recognize their prognostic value in ICU settings.
-To discuss the clinical implications of abnormal platelet counts, including bleeding and thrombotic risks.
-To outline appropriate monitoring strategies and management approaches, including indications for platelet transfusion.
-To recognize special conditions such as heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).
