Dr Chege is a Clinical Oncologist at the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital Oncology Center. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery from Kampala International University, Uganda and a Master’s in Clinical Oncology from Muhumbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, Tanzania. His areas of interest in oncology include GIT Cancers, Head and Neck Cancers, Prostate and Cervical Cancer. Prof. Chite Asirwa:A8082 Prof. Fredrick Chite Asirwa M.D. is the CEO of International Cancer Institute, a not for-profit organization whose main purpose is to expand Education, Clinical Care andTraining opportunities in cancer control and research across sub-Saharan Africa(SSA) through multi-sectoral collaborations and partnerships with relevantorganizations both governmental and NGOs.Dr. Asirwa is a Medical Oncologist & Hematologist, PD/PI of several access topersonalized cancer care and research initiatives including Blueprint Program(Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, and Uganda), Shining Tower Program, ClinicalTrials Program-all geared towards enhancing early detection, promoting primaryHPV screening, providing SOC diagnostics & therapeutics cancer research. He hasdeveloped several training programs including SSA Oncology Preceptorship training,Digital Pathology Program, Telemedicine Program, Oncology training for Physicianassistants (Clinical Officers), development of Oncology Nursing training program inKenya, Medical Oncology Fellowship Program, Oncology Pharmacy program andassisted in the development of gynecologic oncology program. He has assisted inestablishing 17 screening and early detection centers for breast and cervical cancersin Kenya working closely with the counties MOH and other local partners namedEMPOWER clinics. Dr. Asirwa is also the PI of over 15 global multi-center Oncologyand Hematology Clinical Trials in SSA.He was previously (2011-2019), the Director of Academic Model Providing Access toHealth Care (AMPATH Oncology & Hematology Consortium) in Kenya- a consortiumof a dozen Universities in the United States in partnership with Moi University andMoi Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya. In this role he conceptualized and developedinfrastructure for telemedicine at AMPATH, created a robust hematology & oncologyoutreach program in rural Kenya and participated in the development of the KenyaNational Cancer Control policies, strategic plans and guidelines by the NationalMOH. As PI to various clinical and research programs he established Multiple Myeloma program, Lymphoma Program, functional tumor registry, Integrated Breast& Cervical Cancer screening & treatment program, Hemophilia and Sickle celldiagnostics, treatment & research, EMR for Oncology care and screening, amultinational Lung Cancer Control Program, MLCCP (Kenya, South Africa, Lesotho,Tanzania, and Eswatini). He also teaches at various Universities in SSA andparticipates in Scientific Review Committees (SRC) and Data and Safety MonitoringBoard (DSMB) of various Oncology/Hematology Clinical Trials both in the U.S. andSSA.He has also been an active ASCO member through ASCO’s Multidisciplinary CancerManagement Course (MCMC), International Affairs Committee (IAC), EducationCouncil, ASCO‘s Academic Global Oncology Task Force, and as a Peer reviewer toASCO Journals. He is also currently a member of ASCO-ESMO Global OncologyCurriculum committee, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer(IASLC) patient advocate committee, and one of the ASCO’s board of directors (2022-2026). He has been recognized for his work to increase access to cancercontrol for the underserved through various awards including the United States'National Cancer Institute's Pearline Global Cancer Research Humanitarian Award,2020; The Children’s Place International 's 2018 Hero Award for his pioneering workin treating children and adults with cancers in Kenya. He was also awarded the 2023Distinguished Leadership in Global Health Award by the Consortium Universities forGlobal Health (CUHG). He is the founder and current President of the College ofOncology of East, Central and Southern Africa (ECSA-CO) and a senate member forECSA Health Community. International Cancer Institute invites you to attend the Virtual Multidisciplinary Tumor Board case presentation on solid cancers and hematological malignancies, followed by an expert discussion on patient Management. The multidisciplinary team will review recent advancements in oncology, cancer patients’ safety and health outcomes, interdisciplinary collaboration, and treatment plans. There will be a Q&A session with an open floor for insights.
