Description

The implementation of MPDSR involves structured activities to ensure its effectiveness in identifying, analyzing, and preventing maternal and perinatal deaths. Below is a detailed description of the core activities under MPDSR:

Objectives

Enhance Death Identification and Reporting To establish reliable mechanisms for identifying and reporting all maternal and perinatal deaths at facility and community levels. Facilitate Comprehensive Death Reviews To systematically review maternal and perinatal deaths to identify medical and non-medical causes and contributing factors. Improve Data Analysis and Use To analyze trends and patterns in maternal and perinatal deaths for informed decision-making and planning. Promote Targeted Interventions To develop and implement actionable recommendations to prevent future maternal and perinatal deaths. Strengthen Healthcare Systems To enhance the quality of care by addressing gaps in resources, infrastructure, and service delivery identified through MPDSR reviews. Monitor and Evaluate Interventions To assess the effectiveness of implemented recommendations and continuously improve MPDSR processes. Engage Communities and Stakeholders To foster community participation and advocate for policy and resource allocation to improve maternal and perinatal outcomes. Build Accountability and Transparency To ensure that all stakeholders, including health workers and policymakers, are accountable for addressing maternal and perinatal mortality. Promote Knowledge Sharing and Learning To document and disseminate lessons learned, best practices, and successful interventions to enhance the effectiveness of MPDSR nationally and globally. Achieve National and Global Health Goals To contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.1 (reducing maternal mortality) and SDG 3.2 (ending preventable newborn and child deaths). By achieving these objectives, MPDSR activities create a continuous cycle of improvement in maternal and newborn care, ultimately reducing preventable deaths and enhancing health outcomes.
