Objectives

Knowledge-Based Objectives Identify the different types of hypertension in pregnancy (Gestational HTN, Chronic HTN, Preeclampsia, Eclampsia, HELLP syndrome). Explain the pathophysiology and risk factors associated with hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. Describe the maternal and fetal complications that can arise from uncontrolled hypertension during pregnancy. Skills-Based Objectives Demonstrate proper assessment techniques for pregnant patients with suspected hypertension (BP measurement, symptom evaluation, urine protein testing, fetal monitoring). Apply evidence-based management guidelines for hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, including medication choices and monitoring strategies. Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests relevant to hypertensive disorders (CBC, LFTs, urine protein, fetal ultrasound). Critical Thinking / Application Objectives Analyze case scenarios to differentiate between mild and severe preeclampsia. Develop an appropriate care plan for a pregnant patient with hypertension, focusing on maternal and fetal safety. Evaluate emergency management steps in eclampsia, including seizure management and stabilization. Communication & Teamwork Objectives Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration within the healthcare team when managing hypertensive emergencies in pregnancy. Educate patients on warning signs, lifestyle modifications, and the importance of prenatal monitoring.
